Huawei has showcased the Pura X View, a wide-screen smartphone that has quickly drawn attention beyond China for challenging the tall, narrow look that has dominated modern handset design. Introduced at Huawei’s HarmonyOS Smart Mobility Enjoy G9 event, the device is described as the company’s first wide-screen bar-type phone and brings the wider proportions previously associated with foldables into a standard, non-folding body.
The defining feature is its 6.39-inch OLED display with an unusual 16:9.5 aspect ratio. Huawei says the broader panel offers more usable viewing area than some larger conventional phones, making the design better suited to video playback, gaming, reading and mobile productivity. The screen carries a 2232 x 1320 resolution, 2160Hz PWM dimming, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and up to 6500 nits of peak brightness.
Huawei has also emphasised the display’s visual symmetry. The Pura X View uses uniform 1.05mm bezels on all four sides, helping it reach a claimed 96.1% screen-to-body ratio. Despite the wider format, the phone remains slim at 6.68mm thick and weighs 201 grams, while still housing a 7000mAh battery.
On the rear, the device follows the design language of Huawei’s Pura X family, with a horizontal racetrack-style camera island and a textured back panel. Reported colour options include Shadow Red, Linen Grey, Zero White and Phantom Black. HuaweiCentral reports that the phone will use the Kirin 9030S chipset paired with 12GB of RAM, while other launch coverage notes storage options extending up to 1TB.
The Pura X View is also notable on the software side. It is expected to ship with the stable HarmonyOS 7.0 release out of the box, making it one of Huawei’s first phones to arrive with the new platform already installed rather than waiting for a later update.

The launch comes as smartphone makers experiment again with wider form factors. Huawei has already tested the idea through the Pura X and Pura X Max foldables, but the Pura X View removes the hinge and applies the concept to a mainstream slab-style device. Early online reaction suggests the design has resonated with technology watchers, with posts and coverage spreading across global social platforms and tech media outlets.
Pre-orders for the Pura X View are scheduled to begin in China on August 28, with pricing and full availability details still pending. Huawei has not confirmed whether the device will receive a wider international release, but the attention surrounding its launch indicates that the company’s wide-screen design strategy is being noticed well beyond its home market.
