Fairphone Expands Its Repairable Phone Offering in the United States Through Murena

Fairphone is widening access to its repairable smartphones in the United States through its partnership with Murena, giving American customers another option in a market where sealed designs and difficult repairs remain common.

Customers can order the Fairphone Gen 6 and Fairphone 4 through Murena. The phones are supplied with /e/OS, an Android based operating system designed to reduce reliance on Google services and give users more control over personal data.

The main attraction is longevity. Fairphone designs its devices so that owners can replace parts rather than discard the entire phone when a battery, screen, camera or charging port wears out. On the Gen 6, as many as 12 components can be replaced with a standard screwdriver.

The American arrangement differs from buying directly from Fairphone in its established markets. Murena handles purchases and is the first point of contact for repairs, spare parts, connectivity questions and warranty claims on devices it sells. Fairphone says different warranty conditions apply in the United States, although eligible buyers can register for an extended five year warranty.

Owners may install another operating system, but the source of technical support then depends on what they choose. Murena supports the original /e/OS installation, while users of other alternative systems may need to rely on that software community. Devices running Fairphone OS follow Fairphone support channels for software questions.

For consumers, the partnership offers an unusual combination of repairable hardware and software built around privacy. It also requires closer attention to network compatibility, app needs and support terms before buying. The phone may appeal most to people who value a longer usable life and greater control over their device more than seamless access to the standard Google ecosystem.
