HP is redefining the traditional desktop computer with the EliteBoard, a business PC built directly into a slim keyboard. Instead of carrying a laptop or placing a computer tower under the desk, users can connect the device to a monitor and begin working with a more compact setup.
The EliteBoard is powered by AMD Ryzen processors and supports up to 50 TOPS of performance from its neural processing unit. That dedicated hardware is designed to handle some artificial intelligence tasks locally, including features available through Microsoft Copilot Plus, rather than sending every request to the cloud.
HP has fitted the computer into a profile measuring about 12 millimetres. A single USB C connection can link it to compatible docks or as many as two 4K displays. Built in speakers and microphones from Poly Studio are intended to make video calls possible without adding separate audio equipment.
The design is aimed at businesses using shared desks, meeting rooms or flexible offices. An optional fingerprint reader supports Windows Hello sign in, while optional cable locks and a tethered USB C connection can help secure the device when it remains in a public or shared space.
Security is a major part of the pitch. HP says Wolf Security for Business provides protection at the hardware and firmware level, while a tamper detection feature can respond when the device is physically opened. The keyboard is also designed to resist spills and allow easier cleaning.
The unusual form has trade offs. The EliteBoard still needs an external screen for normal use, and optional docks, cables or a battery may be required depending on the workspace. Buyers will also need to compare processor, memory and storage configurations, as business performance will vary with the selected model.
Even so, the EliteBoard offers a fresh answer to an old idea: putting the computer inside the keyboard. By combining that familiar concept with modern AI hardware, wireless connectivity and business security, HP is betting that the desktop of the future may be smaller and easier to move between workspaces.
