Recent reports suggest Apple’s first foldable iPhone is now widely expected to arrive in late 2026, most likely around the September iPhone 18 Pro launch window, though some reports still allow for a later 2026 rollout if production timing slips. The device is still unofficial, but current rumours refer to it as the iPhone Fold, iPhone Ultra, or a related Ultra-branded model.

The latest consensus points to a fall 2026 launch, likely September, with mass production reportedly expected to begin close to launch and supply potentially limited at first.

Design and Features: The foldable iPhone is expected to use a book-style design rather than a clamshell “flip” format. Current rumours point to an outer display of about 5.3 to 5.5 inches and an inner folding display of about 7.7 to 7.8 inches, with a wider, iPad-like 4:3 aspect ratio when open. Apple is reportedly focusing on a very thin body, a durable hinge, and a near-crease-free inner screen.

Battery Life: Recent rumours suggest a battery capacity around 4,800 to 5,000mAh, with some earlier higher-capacity claims now viewed as less certain. Apple is also expected to use power-efficient display technology and software optimisation to manage the demands of the larger foldable screen.

Durability: Apple is rumoured to be using a titanium-and-aluminium frame and a hinge with stainless steel, titanium, or liquid-metal components. The main goal appears to be reducing screen creasing while keeping the device thin and structurally rigid.

Release Timeline: The strongest current rumours point to September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Some reports mention a possible later launch window, such as October to December 2026, if production or hinge-related challenges affect availability.

Price: The foldable iPhone is expected to sit above the Pro models as Apple’s most premium iPhone. Recent estimates generally put the starting price around USD $1,999 to over USD $2,000, with some analyst ranges extending closer to USD $2,399 or more.

Other Features: Rumours suggest the device may use a side-mounted Touch ID sensor instead of Face ID to save internal space. It is also expected to feature an A20-series chip, around 12GB of RAM, storage options up to 1TB, a dual rear-camera system, and software changes in iOS 27 designed for larger, flexible layouts.

Overall, Apple appears to be entering the foldable market cautiously, prioritising durability, thinness, display quality and software polish rather than being first to market. Until Apple announces the product, all details should be treated as rumours rather than confirmed specifications.
