The update gives Google TV owners a larger ad-supported streaming library without requiring a paid subscription. Freeplay, which has previously focused on free live TV channels, now includes a video-on-demand catalogue that can be watched whenever users choose.
Google says the new library features titles from studios including A24 and Lionsgate, with examples such as Lady Bird, Seventeen Again and Hell’s Kitchen. The company also plans to refresh the collection throughout the year.
Alongside the on-demand expansion, Google TV Freeplay is growing its live lineup to more than 300 free channels across news, sports, reality TV, true crime and entertainment. New channel additions include World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network and The Martha Stewart Channel.
The expanded Freeplay service is available through the Freeplay app on the Google TV home screen. Google notes that the service is ad-supported, requires a Google Account and high-speed internet, and is currently available only on Google TV devices in the U.S.
